Final Major Project

For this project, as we had free reign, I created a series of looks that are recreations of people from the tank community. These looks are ranging from 1914-1944 and showcase a range of skills, like creating postiche (knotted facial hair), period wig styling, SFX and beauty makeup. WWI uniform from The History Bunker and some pictures taken at The Tank Museum.

End of Year Show 2024

This was my final end of year show at New College Swindon. Our theme was 'Monsters in the Movies', so I chose to do a look inspired by The Cenobites from my favourite horror film franchise 'Hellraiser'. The look itself is called The Executioner, inspired by medieval executioners. I created some prosthetics that looked like the skin was being peeled off to reveal the muscles underneath, and a bald cap that resembled an executioners hood. The costume was also handmade by me.

Elf Look

This look was inspired by the elves from The Lord of the Rings and 'Dungeons and Dragons'. I created some prosthetic ears from cap plastic and silicone. I also customised the wig by knotting in some green and brown hair, adding some braids and hair rings throughout.

1814 Wigs

For this project, I chose to recreate some hairstyles from 1814 on different hair types, specifically Afro and Caucasian. The Caucasian wig is a human hair wig that I turned into a lace front and the Afro wig was a straight synthetic wig that I added texture and some hair into using a knotting tool.

Old Age Look

This look was created using 'out of kit' techniques including Pro-Bondo crows feet and jowls and old age stipple on the neck using liquid latex. The wig was also set in rollers of varying sizes and dressed by me.

The Florist

My task for this project was to turn a regular job into something that would fit into a Tim Burton movie. The nose and chin were elongated using silicone prosthetics, and the flower and vine prosthetics were used to create the illusion of the plants going in and out of her skin. All of them were sculpted and fabricated by me. The synthetic wig was also cut, set and styled using a range of hair texturing techniques, the flowers and petals were added afterwards. Costume was also created by me.

Old vs New Techniques

This look went alongside my dissertation. In which, I investigated how the evolution of makeup coincides with the progression of technology. On the right side of my models face, the scratch was created using an old technique that consisted of liquid latex and scar wax. This was inspired by the likes of The Wolfman from the 1940s. The left side of the face is covered in infected, rotting skin and I took inspiration from The Last Of Us. It was created using pre-made prosthetics and coloured using alcohol activated paints.

Kratos

This project was about bald caps, so I chose to recreate Kratos from the God of War franchise. The bald cap was pre-made and I made the beard by putting the ends of synthetic hair into latex, then applied some extra hair over the top to blend it into the skin. Costume was also created by me.

End of Year Show 2023

The theme for this End of Year Show was Phobias, and I chose Arachnophobia. I created the whole costume, the legs and the abdomen from scratch and the facial prosthetics were made out of silicone with cap plastic edges. The eyes and the teeth were made from Poly Morph beads and the wig had a hair frame installed before being rollered and set. The legs were also body-painted to look like hair.

1940s Wig

A 1940s wig I have styled for a previous project. The wig itself is a human hair wig that I added some extra hair into and wet set it in rollers. The makeup was also done to a period accurate standard to complete the overall look.

Calcifer (Howl's Moving Castle)

This project allowed us to pick a character from a book and reimagine them to fit into an editorial setting, theatrical setting and a TV/film setting. I chose my favourite fire demon, Calcifer, from the children's book Howl's Moving Castle. The editorial look consisted of using an airbrush to create wispy shapes around the eyes, adding glitter to the face and neck and adding small pieces of synthetic hair to the natural hair. The theatrical look involves bold colours and distinct shapes to create flames, and the colour is continued into the wig. The arms are reminiscent of the logs Calcifer sits on. As for the TV/film look, the nose and chin are elongated using prosthetics and the eyebrows are covered with flame prosthetics. Both wigs were styled using hair texturing techniques and the costumes, prosthetics and props were made by me.
